9:00 Trail Ride (Distance TBD. Max. 30 Mi)

Whether the Eskimos have 50 words to describe snow is up for debate; but more than one are definitely needed to describe snow and cycling conditions. They are predicting snow Friday night and depending on how much we get; there could be some good riding conditions if you are up for some adventure. It can be a lot of fun riding down the local paths in a winter wonderland. Depending on the details of the snow conditions; you can ride with some degree of confidence.  Really! ½ to 2 inches of virgin snow that isn’t too wet can make for an enjoyable ride.

Last year we had a wet snow followed by a hard freeze. This meant the trails were deeply rutted and stayed that way for many weeks making them ridable to only those with fat tires and willing to do some navigating. Getting out and hitting the trail with some pristine snow doesn’t always happen. Bring your fat bike or trail bike with your biggest tires. We’ll modify plans as needed, depending on who shows up and what type of equipment.

The basic idea is to head south on the Fox River Trail and either take the Batavia Spur to get to some limestone or stay on the paved trail towards Aurora, or Montgomery, or Oswego.  Improvisation is allowed and encouraged.  Based on the forecast, the temps will be below freezing so the snow shouldn’t be too wet and hopefully pack nicely without icing up.
