Riding through a rock cut during the 2017 ride.
Frank's Galena Weekend - Day 1
A popular club event (in its 7th year) put together by cross-country rider Frank Hassler. Enjoy three days of riding through the beautiful Galena Territories and surrounding areas. Past rides have included sections in Southern Wisconsin and Eastern Iowa. The ride distance varies; but usually around 40-60 miles daily. Be prepared for some hill climbing! (2,000 - 4,500 feet of elevation). Use this event as an incentive to meet your season’s training goals. Overnight accommodations are the rider’s responsibility. Ride Friday, Saturday, or all three days.
Per Frank: "Friday's ride will be on the roads south of Galena. We will meet at Blanding Landing Campground at 11 AM. We will ride for 2 hrs and have lunch at Chestnut Mountain Resort. Then we will ride another 2 hr. We will have some challenging roads both up hill and down. We will regroup at the top of the hills and work on our downhill skills and fears. I am offering an end of ride refreshment and dinner to all who can make it to my cottage at 5718 S. River Road, Hanover, IL 61041-9558 (next to Blanding Landing Campground)." Franks 2018 Friday Route The routes for all three days are also posted as an event on the club's RideWithGPS page. Accessing the routes as a member of the club's RwGPS page unlocks additional subscription-only features, such as PDF printing, and turn-by-turn voice cues with the RwGPS mobile app'. Club members can join the page by submitting a request to [membership@fvbsc.org]. Ride leader: Frank Hassler, Ph.
