The City of Batavia is kicking off our first-ever bicycle plan with a public brainstorming workshop on Thursday, March 9 at 7pm at Batavia City Hall. (LIB is the consultant for the plan.) Please bring your ideas for bike routes throughout town, bike parking locations, “Safe Routes to School” improvements, and more. The workshop’s agenda will include: 1. Introduction of the bike plan project, including the scope of work. 2. Description of some types of improvements that may be considered. 3. Attendees mark up individual maps with their ideas. 4. Small groups (based on the City’s geographic areas) prioritize and report suggestions. 5. Next steps – plus how you can stay involved and updated. Further details on the plan will be available on the City’s website (link below). If you are unable to attend, please submit your ideas at the website or to Mr. Jerry Swanson, City of Batavia, 100 N. Island Ave., Batavia, IL 60510.
Some updates on other projects that LIB has been involved with: • Geneva has won a $199,000 grant for a bike trail from the stoplight at 7th/State, past Wheeler Park, to the existing Fox River Trail West that ends just south of Route 31 at the St. Charles border. As with any federal money, engineering and approvals will take at least a year. The project kicks off implementation of the City’s recently adopted bicycle plan. • North Aurora continues engineering on trail segments connecting the Fox River Trail, Airport Road, and its near west subdivision by the Par 3 golf course. This is one phase of a planned trail that also includes a developer-built trail between Randall and Orchard, eventually connecting with a county-planned “Mid-County” Trail heading north-south through Kane. • Aurora has contracted with LIB to help plan completion of the Fox River Trail gap through downtown (from New York Street to the Gilman Trail). This is a long-term project in engineering right now. • Also, Aurora is just finishing its draft bike/pedestrian plan, and LIB will lead the implementation effort. One part will be design review of road projects and new developments for impact on biking and walking. • Kane County is finalizing revisions for its 2006 bicycle map, free to the public and at:- http://www.co.kane.il.us/DOT/COM/Bicycle/BikeMap.pdf Support LIB’s work by becoming a member: www.bikelib.org/join
