FVBSC members invited to join group trip to Root River Trail

Members of the Fox Valley Bike & Ski Club have been invited to join a group trip to the Root River State Trail in southeast Minnesota.

The trip will take place from Tuesday, May 7 through Friday, May 10. Along with QCBC and EBC members, members of the Elmhurst (Illinois) Bicycle Club and Fox Valley Bicycle and Ski Club have been invited on the trip.

Lodging will be available at the Root River Inn and Suites in Lanesboro, Minnesota, with a block of rooms set aside for group members. Those who register and indicate they plan to take the trip will receive an email from the hotel; final reservations can then be made. More information about the hotel is available at their website: rootriverinn.com.

The Root River State Trail is a paved multiuse trail that was developed from an abandoned railroad line. The trail is 42 miles long and runs between the Minnesota towns of Fountain and Houston. A branch known as the Harmony-Preston Valley State Trail links to the Root River trail, near its western terminus. To learn more, visit the trail website: Root River Trail.

Riders who take the trip can follow four basic routes, ranging from 22 to 46 miles. Those who register will be sent information on restaurants and attractions in the area.

To register, go to the FVB&SC calendar via this link: Root River Trip. More information is available from Petra Lynn Hofman at petrahof@gmail.com, (630) 418-4337.

The Arlington 500 is a recreational bike ride on scenic roads in Lake County.  The Arlington Heights Bicycle Club (AHBC) has hosted this ride for over 40 years.  It is attended by hundreds of riders; see the testimonials at the end of these notes.   For 2024, we moved the on-site registration and rest stop location to Lake Zurich High School based on feedback from 2023 riders, and we will be keeping the hub and spoke configuration.  The new location provides access to all new routes with a variety of terrain.  In addition, we will be offering a wide variety of food choices.
