Sun 2/28/21 9:30am Snowshoe/Hike Raceway Woods, Dundee
For anyone wanting to enjoy what’s left of our snow—I just got back from exploring Raceway Woods—There’s still enough snow for a morning snowshoe hike. Hike the historic raceway (wide, paved) 3 ½ mile loop through the woods, some gradual slopes. Snow is soft, getting thinner, better at untrampled sides. Poles recommended due to snow conditions. Snowshoes probably best (you may want to treat clamps/heel plate with silicone spray to lesson possible sticking snow.) Hiking boots with deep treads should be OK, but will be more work. Use Hwy 31 pkg lot-note has some mud and ice. Restroom bldg with pit toilet near pkg lot.
PLEASE REGISTER BY 8:30 am so I know you are coming, and let me know if you want to borrow snowshoes. (If no registrants by 8:30am Sun, I may change my plans for the morning. Contact Jeanne B. If you need my cell phone (Sun morning only please- call 312-320-1499).
For trail map/info see kaneforest.com (Note-Hwy 31 is named Western on FP map)
