THIS IS AN ELMHURST BICYCLE CLUB EVENT - offered to FVBSC members to participate Join the Elmhurst Bicycle Club for a Double Century (200 miles) ride on Saturday, June 26th. This EBC annual ride out to Dixon and back is on low-traffic suburban and country roads and passes through Sycamore, Oregon, Dixon, Ashton, and Hinckley. Be prepared to ride long stretches with minimal stops. Please plan to arrive by 5:15 AM and ready to roll at 5:30. Per EBC rules, everyone has to sign in on a ride sheet and that takes time. There will be a short pre-ride briefing at 5:25 AM. Even if you think that you can finish by sunset, you should still be prepared (headlight + taillight + reflective gear) to ride past sunset just in case. Safety First. There may be mechanical delays, weather delays, or you may just get tired. Sunrise will be at 5:19am and sunset at 8:31pm, so with a 5:30 start that's 15 hours of daylight - if you keep stops to 2-1/2 hrs and maintain a 16-mph average you can finish by sunset! A 15-mph average with 1 hr-25 min of stops will also get you in by sunset. If you take a bit longer, as long as you are visible at night you can ride safely. Bring lights & reflective gear in case you finish after dark. A daylight finish is possible if stops kept short and 16 MPH average maintained. This is a self-supported ride. Planned rest stops at Marathon in Sycamore, Casey's in Oregon, Subway in Dixon, and Casey's in Ashton. (NOTE: There are other options in Dixon, for example Culver's (before turn onto 4th), McDonald's, and Burger King) ROUTE COMING SOON You should register on this club's site but will have to sign the EBC waiver on paper before the ride begins on June 26th. Training Tips - Be sure you can ride 130 miles before June 26th. Then the 200-mile distance is just a bit more than a 50% increase of your longest ride. Also try to do a couple of rides with intervals every week. The ride coordinator is Eric Peterson @ The Elmhurst Bicycle Club.
