This is part of Mid County Trail, is maintained by South Elgin Park District, and is one of my favorite areas to ride.
We may see a heron or egret on the ponds or maybe a deer in the woods. Trail is paved, winding and fairly flat with native prairie plants, woods and a creek.

If you want more ride miles--suggest you add Randall Trail or Fox River Trail plus Riverbend Trail, or simply repeat the Thornwood loops.

Location: directions from bike-ped bridge at Silver Glen and Randall Rd --

Ride start--park near base of bike-ped bridge, shopping center corner, west side of First American Bank.

Car entrance to shopping center is off Silver Glen (first entrance west of Randall.)

Note--if you need a restroom--Caputo's grocery opens at 7:30 am.

Directions to Brookside Park:

by bike--continue west on Silver Glen trail (goes downhill and curves north), then take first spur to right which ends at Brookside Park. 1.5 miles by bike from bank to the park.

by car--continue on Silver Glen past shopping center, turn north (right) on Thornwood Blvd, then immediate left on Brookwood, which ends by the park. Suggested parking--along street in next block past playground, along greenway for the gas line.

Note--if you use google maps, the bank and park have a South Elgin address, and the trail shows as a thin green line on the map.
