Winter Riding Season Safety Tips

Winter riding season is here and it’s worth reminding everyone about some safety Guidelines

• Think ahead when encountering large patches of leaves. There can be potholes or other obstacles hidden underneath them.
• Leaves and especially wet leaves can be extremely slippery.
• When the temperature drops; bridges can become icy. This is ESPECIALY true for the wooden bridges on our local trails. Use caution!  Suggest only riding at a speed you are comfortable falling at. That may mean walking across!
• Watch out for the shade that large trees provide. An otherwise sunny, dry road surface can change when the shade slows the evaporation of moisture on the road.
• Be wary of wind-blown snow that can cause isolated slick portions on the road.

Winter riding can be a great way to avoid cabin fever and get some sunshine. With some additional caution and proper clothing; cycling can continue on for the next few months.
